When you have a plan, you won’t have to miss another opportunity to share Jesus. But sometimes it’s hard to find those opportunities or know how to use them!

Conversations about spiritual things can be tough. Both difficult to initiate and to handle well without unnecessary confrontation.

Today we’re going to learn strategies for making the most of the relationships and opportunities that God will give you.

A Heart For People

Two Questions to Determine a Heart for Others:

  • Do I truly love all people?
  • Does my life communicate care for others?

God has made everyone with a unique personality. Some may be more ready to connect with people than others, but that does not change our calling as Christians to love.

Four Comitments to Have a heart for others

  • I Love God and I love others.
  • I am willing and ready to meet other’s needs and put them first.
  • Because I Love people, I am the type of person who connects with others.
  • I recognize that people’s greatest need is salvation through Jesus Christ.

Who Has God Has Placed Around Me? The key to recognizing opportunities to share the Gospel is noticing the people around you.

What Are Their Names?

A person’s name is to that person, the sweetest, most important sound in any language.

Homework: Write down people whose names you need to learn

Add S.A.L.T. to Everyday Interactions

You can show love and move any interaction toward witnessing by doing the following:

S - Say Something

To open a conversation you have to start by saying something! Make a kind comment, ask an easy question.

Proverbs 18:24 - A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: And there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

A - Ask questions

  • Continue to ask questions and get to know the person
  • Questions are the best way to find out how God is at work in a person’s life
  • See “Five Questions to Determine Where God is Working” for proven questions to move a conversation toward spiritual things

L - Listen

  • Listen carefully to what people are saying
  • More than that practice listening for the feeling behind words

T - Turn

  • Don’t forget to turn the conversation toward spiritual things
  • People’s greatest need is for Salvation through Jesus Christ

Five Questions to Determine Where God is Working

  • Do you have any kind of spiritual belief?
  • To you, who is Jesus?
  • Do you think there is a heaven and a hell?
  • If you died right now, where would you go?
  • If what you believe were not true, would you want to know it?
